Gnathostomes - Gakkourui

Japanese:
Gnathostomes - Gakkourui

A general term for fishes belonging to the phylum Chordata, subphylum Vertebrata, subphylum Craniata, and class Gnathostomata. It includes all fishes with jaws, and is distinguished from the Agnatha superclass, which includes jawless fishes such as lampreys and hagfishes. Some researchers do not recognize the Agnatha as a single taxonomic group, and consider jawless fishes to be classified as seven superclasses, including the lampreys and hagfishes, plus five fossil species (Conodonta, Pteraspidomorphi, Anaspida, Thelodonti, and Osteostracomorphi), and to be placed alongside the Gnathostomata.
