An informal meeting (caucus) of prominent members of a political party. Its main purposes are (1) to select candidates for elections, (2) to discuss bills and policies to be introduced, and (3) to decide political strategies. The name is said to come from the Native American word Cau-Cau-a-Su, which originally meant "consultant."
