An evergreen tall tree of the mulberry family. Native to tropical Africa, it grows to a height of 12-15m. The leaves are hard and dark green. They are 25-35cm long, violin-shaped, and have wavy edges. They are called oak-like rubber trees because their leaf shape resembles that of oak. They are grown in pots as ornamental plants, but are often planted outdoors in tropical and subtropical regions. They are shade-tolerant and relatively resistant to low temperatures, making them easy to grow. They prefer high humidity, but can survive winter at around 0°C if kept on the dry side.
