Japanese: 河岸八町米仲買 - かしはっちょうこめなかがい

This refers to rice wholesalers in the Edo period. They were a group of rice brokers who lived in rows in the eight rice riverside streets around Edo's Nihonbashi district, namely Omote-gashi, Nagaya, Shichiken (all in Motofunamachi), Kamiise, Shimoise (all in Isemachi), Koamicho, Kofunecho, and Horiecho. During the Genroku period (1688-1704), their number exceeded 140, and they had great influence in the Edo rice trading world, with some even serving as suppliers to the shogunate.

江戸時代の米問屋をいう。江戸日本橋付近の米河岸八町，すなわち表河岸，長屋，七軒 (以上本船町) ，上伊勢，下伊勢 (以上伊勢町) ，小網町，小舟町，堀江町に軒を並べて居を定めていた米仲買商仲間。元禄年間 (1688～1704) にはその数は 140軒をこし，江戸米商界に大勢力をもち，幕府用達をつとめるものもあった。
