It was established in June 1874 at the site of a former stable after Saigo Takamori resigned over the so-called Seikanron (Seikanron) debate. The school consists of a rifle school for former Imperial Guard soldiers and an artillery school for artillerymen. The former was presided over by Shinohara Kunimoto and had 500-600 students, while the latter was supervised by Murata Shinpachi and had about 200 students. In addition to military studies, the school also taught Chinese classics such as the Spring and Autumn Annals of Zuo. The school was divided into several dozen groups, and daily duty was determined by a rotation system, with students arriving at school at 9 a.m. and leaving at noon. ...

…鹿児島に設立された鹿児島士族中心の学校。西郷隆盛がいわゆる征韓論で下野した後，1874年6月，旧厩跡に設立された。本校は旧近衛兵の銃隊学校と砲兵出身者による砲隊学校よりなる。前者は篠原国幹が主宰し生徒数は500～600名，後者は村田新八が監督し生徒数約200名であったという。学課は軍事のほか《春秋左氏伝》などの漢学をも講じ，また校中を数十組に分け，輪番制で日々の当直をきめ，出校は午前9時，退出は正午とされた。…
