Assab - Assab (English spelling)

A port city on the Red Sea coast in southeastern Eritrea, on a par with Massawa. Population 50,000 (1992). Opened in the early 1960s. It has a capacity of several 10,000-ton ships, a warehouse of 50,000 square meters, and an oil refinery. The 850-kilometer highway that runs from Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, through Dessie to the port of Assab was completed in the late 1950s as an important economic road, and is heavily used by freight trucks and buses.

エリトリア南東部、マッサワと並ぶ紅海沿岸の港町。人口5万（1992）。1960年代初頭に開港。1万トン級の船数隻の収容能力をもち、倉庫5万平方メートル、精油工場もある。エチオピアの首都アディス・アベバからデシエを通りアッサブ港に至る850キロメートルの自動車道路は、重要な経済道路として1950年代末に完備し、貨物自動車やバスの往来が頻繁である。
