1865-1927 Born in Bizen (Okayama Prefecture), she was a feminist activist during the Meiji and Taisho periods. She took the opportunity of attending the Okayama campaign with Toshiko Kishida to join the Freedom and People's Rights Movement, and was imprisoned in 1885 for her involvement in the Osaka Incident. After her release from prison, she worked in women's education, and married Tomosaku Fukuda, but he died before her death. Influenced by Sanshiro Ishikawa, she became interested in socialism and joined the Heiminsha. In 1907, she founded the magazine Sekai Fujin, and worked to expand women's rights. She has also written an autobiography, Warawa no Hanseigai (Half the Life of a Concubine).
