Carbinol
Another name for methyl alcohol. The method of naming alcohols as derivatives of methyl alcohol (for example, ethyl alcohol is called methyl carbinol) is called the carbinol nomenclature method. This nomenclature method was abolished in 1965 by the IUPAC Nomenclature Commission.
