Kinetin

Its chemical formula is C ₁ (/0)H ₉ N ₅ O. 6-furfurylaminopurine. A type of plant hormone. It was discovered in 1955 by F. Skoog and others in old decomposition products of DNA as a substance that promotes the division and differentiation of cultured cells of tobacco and carrot. It has not been found in natural plants. Its effects include promoting plant cell division and differentiation into stems and leaves, inhibiting root growth, promoting lateral bud formation and chlorophyll synthesis, releasing dormancy, and preventing aging. Naturally occurring plant hormones with similar effects are collectively known as cytokinins.
