Frontier - Kaitaku Zensen

…In Europe and other countries, it is often used to mean a border, but in the United States, it often means a sparsely populated settlement adjacent to a wilderness, or an area where civilized and uncivilized societies come into contact, and in Japan it is translated as a frontier or frontier. In the early expression of the U.S. Census Bureau, it refers to an area with a population of 2 or less per square mile, but areas adjacent to such areas with a population of 3 to 6 or 7 to 18 per square mile are often considered to overlap with the frontier.
