…He had already succeeded in experiments in rearing shrimp from hatched larvae to adult shrimp before World War II, and in 1960 began commercial-scale aquaculture in abandoned salt fields in Kagawa Prefecture. Among the species cultivated in seawater, kuruma shrimp was the species for which artificial seedling production technology was established the earliest, and today, along with sea breams and abalones, kuruma shrimp are mass-produced not only for aquaculture but also for release into the sea.

The most advanced form of aquaculture involves artificially collecting eggs from cultivated parent fish, hatching them to produce seedlings, housing the seedlings in facilities, feeding them artificial feed and raising them to market size, with some of them being used as parent fish.
