[History]
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was established on July 8, 1869 (Meiji 2) as a result of the revision of the Dajokan system, according to the provisions of the Personnel Order issued on the same day. The predecessor organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were the Foreign Affairs Investigation Section, which was established on January 9, 1868, followed by the Foreign Affairs Section, Foreign Affairs Bureau, and Foreign Affairs Officer, which were established, revised, and abolished in that order. The title of the Director-General was also changed in 1868 from Director-General of Foreign Affairs (first Prince Yoshiaki) to Governor of Foreign Affairs (first Date Munenari), and later became Minister of Foreign Affairs.

 太政官制の改定により外務省が創立されたのは1869年(明治2)7月8日で,同日発布の職員令の定めによる。外務省の前身の機関としては,1868年1月9日設置の外国事務取調掛をはじめ,次に外国事務課,外国事務局,外国官の順に設置後改廃されていた。長官の名称も,68年の外国事務総裁(初代は嘉彰親王)から外国官知事(初代は伊達宗城)に変わり,のち外務卿となる。…
