Born: December 30, 1930, Osaka [Died] December 9, 1989. Tokyo Novelist. Graduated from the Faculty of Law, Osaka City University. Received the Akutagawa Prize for "The Emperor's New Clothes" (1957). Like his previous work "Panic" (57), this work deals with the modern theme of "organization and individual" in industrial society. In "The Threepenny Opera" (59), he portrayed the life of homeless people and poor people in the former site of the military arsenal in Osaka. He later became known for his wide range of international activities, such as attending the Eichmann trial in Israel and going to the battlefields of Vietnam. He also founded Beheiren (Citizens' Coalition for Peace in Vietnam) with Oda Makoto and others, and actively promoted the peace movement. His powerful works based on modern history include "Shining Darkness" (68) and "Summer Darkness" (71). Other works include "Vietnam War Chronicles" (1965), "The Torn Cocoon" (1986), and "Night and Heat Haze" (1986). In 1990, the "Kaiko Takeshi Prize" was established.
