Convention People's Party (CPP)

Japanese: 会議人民党 - かいぎじんみんとう（英語表記）Convention People's Party; CPP

A mass political party in Ghana. Led by K. Nkrumah, it was founded in June 1949 by the Youth Organising Committee of the United Gold Coast Congress (UGCC). It demanded immediate autonomy from Britain and took active steps, which put it at odds with the lukewarm UGCC. Since becoming the largest party in the Legislative Council elections in 1951, it had a great influence as the ruling party in Ghana, following Ghana's independence in March 1957, until the military coup of February 1966, when Nkrumah's government was overthrown. It was also known as the first political party in Africa to explicitly state its support for Pan-Africanism in its party constitution, but was dissolved when the military government was established in February 1966.

ガーナの大衆政党。 K.エンクルマを指導者として，1949年6月統一ゴールドコースト会議 UGCCから，青年組織委員会が分離創設した。イギリスからの即時自治を要求して積極行動を展開し，微温的な UGCCと対立。 51年の立法評議会選挙で第1党となって以来，57年3月のガーナ独立を経て 66年2月の軍事クーデターでエンクルマ政権が倒れるまで，同国の支配政党として大きな影響力をもっていた。党規約のなかに汎アフリカ主義の支持を明記した，アフリカで最初の政党としても知られていたが，66年2月軍事政権成立とともに解散させられた。
