Cropping type

Japanese: 作型 - さくがた（英語表記）cropping type

This refers to the cultivation system for crops in a region. Today, many vegetables are produced year-round. For example, cucumbers are grown in greenhouses in warm areas such as Kochi Prefecture from November to April, in Saitama, Gunma, and Ibaraki prefectures in the Kanto region from May to July, and in Fukushima, Miyagi, Iwate, and other Tohoku regions from July to November. When produced in each region like this, varieties suited to each region are selected, and management techniques such as covering and heating are selected and discarded, creating a cultivation system that integrates both. When creating a new crop type, on the one hand, the creation of new varieties is required, and on the other hand, the adaptation of management techniques is required. Forcing cultivation and retarding cultivation are examples of differentiated crop types.

一地域の作物の栽培体系をいう。今日多くの野菜は周年的に生産されている。きゅうりについてみると，11月～4月は高知県などの暖地のハウス栽培で生産され，5～7月は関東では埼玉，群馬，茨城の各県，7～11月は福島，宮城，岩手などの東北地方で生産されているが，このように各地域で生産される場合，それぞれの地域に適応する品種が選ばれ，また被覆，加温などの管理技術が取捨選択されて，両者の総合化のなかで栽培体系がつくられる。新たな作型を作出する場合，一方では新品種の作出が，他方では管理技術の適応が要請される。促成栽培，抑制栽培は分化した作型の例である。
