…The contents were abridged translations of the country information columns of the Yafansche Courant, with the Batahia Shimbun based on the August to November 1861 issue and the Overseas Newspaper based on the January 1862 issue. Both translations were done by the Western Book Investigation Office, which had renamed itself the Bansho Shirabesho. In 1862, abridged translations of newspapers from Western countries were also published in three volumes as the Overseas Newspaper Special Collection. All of the above newspapers were printed in wood type and published in book-style single volumes. …
