The Japan Academy Prize is awarded annually to one recipient each of the Japan Art Academy Prizes, based on a grant from the Imperial Household. The academic prize was first awarded in 1911 ( Meiji 44 ) and the art prize in 1949 ( Showa 24 ). 〘名〙 毎年の日本学士院賞、日本芸術院賞の受賞者のうち、とくに一名ずつに、皇室の下賜金に基づき、学士院、芸術院が与える賞。学術関係は、明治四四年(一九一一)、芸術関係は、昭和二四年(一九四九)に始まる。
