A port city at the southern end of Zambales Province in the central-western part of Luzon, Philippines. It is located at the head of Subic Bay, which intrudes into the base of the Bataan Peninsula. During the American colonial period, it was a naval base, and during World War II, it was occupied by Japan from 1941 to 1945. After the war, it became the Subic Bay Base, the largest base of the US Navy in the Philippines, and was home to repair and supply depots and training facilities for the 7th Fleet, but was returned to Japan in 1992.
