...Large synthesizers have many of these basic functional circuits, allowing for multidimensional control. The name "music synthesizer" originated in the 1950s when Harry Olsen and others from the United States named a punched paper tape-controlled synthesis device (vacuum tube type) developed in the RCA Victor laboratory. In 1964, Robert Moog (1934-) from the United States focused on organically constructing voltage-controlled functional circuits using transistors, and developed a device that could be mass-produced commercially.
