…Born in Clermont, north of Paris, he went to Paris at an early age to study humanities and medicine, but at the same time he was passionate about poetry and theater. He became acquainted with the young Pléiade poets Ronsard and du Bellay, and under their influence he wrote love poems, which he published as a collection of poems called Olympus (1560). In theater, he hated the vulgarity of medieval drama and took ancient drama as his model, writing the first original tragedy in French, Caesar (1561), as well as comedies such as Madame Treasurer (1559) and Les Amazements (1561), making important contributions to the establishment of Renaissance theater. …
