Year of death: Sadawa 2/Shohei 1.4.13 (1346.5.4) Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. Military commander during the Northern and Southern Court period, Shimotsuke Shugo. Childhood name Tsuneinumaru, commonly known as Koshiro, first named Tomouji. His father Hidetomo was killed in battle at a young age, and he was captured by Kitabatake Akiie's army, which had advanced south in December 1337 (4th year of Kenmu/2nd year of Engen), but was pardoned due to the plea of his relative Yuki Munehiro. He basically acted as a Shugo on the Ashikaga side, but was always ambiguous about his future, and was constantly tempted to join the Southern Court by Kitabatake Chikafusa, and was approached by Konoe Tsunetada with a plan to start an uprising of the Fujiwara clan, a splinter group of the Southern Court. The background to this is thought to have been the unstable situation in the eastern provinces, and the internal conflict with his younger brother Ujiyasu, which could be described as a "war between brothers."
