[The origin of Rakugo]
The origins of Rakugo were the Otogishu (Ohanashishu), who served as close aides to military commanders and told them stories during the Azuchi-Momoyama period at the end of the 16th century. This is evidenced by the Gigen Yokishu (Gigon Yokishu) (Keicho era (1596-1615)), a compilation of the Otogishu's humorous stories.
