Ridge - One

It refers to a continuous protruding part of a mountain range that lies between valleys or basins. It is a synonym of mountain ridge and mountain ridge. The size of a ridge varies depending on the size of the mountain range. Ridges that are in the same mountain range and form a main watershed are generally larger than spurs. The arrangement of ridges is more intricate in places where the geological structure and distribution of rock layers are more complex. Sickle ridges are formed in high mountain cold regions where both glacial erosion and periglacial action are intense.

谷と谷または盆地と盆地などの間にあり、連続している山地の突起部をいう。山背、山稜(さんりょう)の同義語。尾根の規模は、山地の規模によって異なる。同じ山地にあり主分水界を形成している尾根の規模は、一般に支脈のそれよりも大きい。尾根の配列は、地質構造や構成岩層の分布が複雑である所ほど入り組んでいる。高山寒冷地帯にあり氷食・周氷河両作用が激しい所では鎌(かま)尾根が形成される。
