Born: September 27, 1914, Fukui [Died] January 9, 1988. Tokyo actor and director. Real name: Nobuo Terao. Dropped out of Nihon University's Art Department. After working at the Left Theater, he joined the Shinkyo Theater Company in 1934, where he gained recognition for his reading of Eiji Kubo's Volcanic Ash Land. During World War II, he toured with the Mizuho Theater Company, and founded the People's Art Theater Company in 1948 and the Mingei Theater Company in 1950. He directed his first play, Fate by Yoshie Hotta, in 1959, and has since worked mainly as a director. His representative works include Arbuzov's Irkutsk Tales (1962), Junji Kinoshita's The Japanese Called Otto (1962), The Trial (1970), and Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard (1974). In 1986, he starred in Junji Kinoshita's Sannen Netaro as part of the Uno Jukichi troupe, touring the country. He also appeared in many films, television shows, and radio shows.
