Otter board

A net mouth opening plate that uses water resistance to open the mouth of a bottom trawl net to the left and right. Trawl fishing involves towing a trawl net using otter boards from one ship, either from the side of the ship or from the stern. Otter trawls are an improvement over beam trawls, and were originally attached directly to the end of the wing net, but now handropes are placed between the otter boards and the wing net.

底引網の網口を水の抵抗を利用して左右に開かせるための網口開口板。トロール漁業は，オッターボードを使用するトロール網を1隻の船で引航するもので，揚網の際舷側からするものと，船尾からするものとがある。オッタートロール網は，ビームトロール網から改良されたもので，当初は直接翼網の先に取付けられていたが，現在ではオッターボードと翼網の間に手綱 handropeが入る。
