"Poem of Ossian" - Ossian's Song

…(2) The tales of the 3rd century hero King Fionn Mac Wal and his Knights of the Fianna, including the love story between Fionn's son, the poet Osin, and the fair-haired Niab, the daughter of the fairy king, the tragic love story between Diarmuid and Gráinne, which is considered the basis for Tristan and Isolde, and the brave warriors Fergus and Oscar. In modern times, Macpherson adapted and compiled these stories into a work called Ossian (1762-63), which influenced poets and writers around the world, including Wordsworth, Goethe, and Chateaubriand. In addition, Standish James O'Grady (1846-1928) of Ireland wrote The History of Ireland (1878-80) based on ancient documents, which inspired WB Yeats, Lady Gregory, JM Synge, and AE (real name George William Russell, 1867-1935) in the 19th century to write various works based on mythology, thus promoting the Irish Literary Revival.
