...In the Edo period, Matsunami was the territory of the Kaga domain, and towns such as Kajimachi and Hongumi were formed, with storehouses and salt storehouses established there. Ogi in the south is a good natural harbor and has flourished as a fishing port since the Middle Ages, and is still one of the prefecture's leading fishing bases today. Rice paddies are scarce, and before the war many brewers came to work there, but with the spread of vegetable and tobacco cultivation, this number is decreasing.
