...Some species are known to live in ant or termite nests, and some parasitize the outside of large animals such as mammals. The giant rove beetle Creophilus maxillosus (illustration) is the largest of the species found in Japan, with some reaching a body length of over 20 mm. They gather on carrion and feed on maggots and other insects.
