...Hirosaki Domain has long been a land of livestock farming, and had five horse farms run by the domain, including Karekihira Farm. In the Mito Domain, Tokugawa Mitsukuni established a farm in Ono Village, Taga County, Hitachi Province (present-day Takahagi City) in 1678 (Enpo 6), where he let cattle and horses graze, naming it Ono Farm. He brought in 12 Dutch horses for the first time and tried to breed them, and the number of horses grew to 400, and the farm area spread over a wide area spanning many villages. In Satsuma, in the western part of the country, Arabian horses were imported and let loose in Yoshino Farm during the Tenbun era (1532-55), and it was called Kara Farm. ...

…弘前藩も昔から牧畜の盛んな土地で，枯木平牧など藩営の馬牧が5ヵ所あった。水戸藩では徳川光圀が1678年(延宝6)，常陸国多賀郡大能村(現，高萩市)に牧を置き，牛馬を放牧して〈大能牧〉と名づけ，初めてオランダの馬12頭を入れて繁殖を図り，牧馬は400頭にもなり，牧の地域も多くの村にまたがって広い範囲に及んでいた。西国の薩摩では天文年間(1532‐55)に吉野牧にアラビア馬を輸入して放飼し，唐牧と称していたという。…
