In the Mito Domain, Tokugawa Mitsukuni established a farm in Ono Village, Taga County, Hitachi Province (present-day Takahagi City) in 1678 (Enpo 6), where he let cattle and horses graze, naming it Ono Farm. He brought in 12 Dutch horses for the first time and tried to breed them, and the number of horses grew to 400, and the farm area spread over a wide area spanning many villages.
