Year of death: Tempo 5 (1834) Year of birth: 1766 A swordsmith of the late Edo period. Son of Otsuki Koyo, a metalsmith whose trade name was Yamashiroya. Born in Kyoto. His childhood name was Kihachiro. He was known by other names such as Dairyusai, Ryukomadou, Shiryudo, and Zeku Nyudo, and his signatures include Yoshu Kouki, Gekkouki, and Mitsuoki. After turning 30, he went to Edo for a time to continue his training. He also studied painting under Kishimoto, and was influenced by Nagasawa Rosetsu, which led to his skill in painting. He is considered one of the three great Kyoto metalsmiths, along with Ichinomiya Nagatsune and Tetsugendou Shoraku. His representative work, "Ohara Onna Zu Tsuba" (private collection), shows a wide range of subjects, including depictions of Kyoto scenery, and he excels in single-cut carving. He is thought to have taken on the name Gorozaemon around the age of 50. In addition to his eldest son Mitsuhiro, he also worked to train many disciples, including Kawaharabayashi Hideoki, Shinoyama Atsuo, and Matsuo Gassan, and made a great contribution to the prosperity of the Otsuki school. 没年:天保5(1834) 生年:明和3(1766) 江戸後期の装剣金工家。山城屋を屋号とした金工家大月光芳の子。京都生まれ。幼名は喜八郎。大竜斎,竜駒堂,紫竜堂,是空入道などの別号があり,銘は雍州光興,月光興,三津興などと切る。30歳を過ぎて一時江戸に下り,修業を重ねた。その一方で岸駒に絵を習い,長沢蘆雪の影響を受けて絵にも巧みなものがあったという。一宮長常,鉄元堂正楽と共に京都金工の三名工のひとりに挙げられている。代表作「大原女図鐔」(個人蔵)にみるように京都の風物を描写した題材など幅広い作域を示し,片切彫りにすぐれたものがある。50歳前後に五郎左衛門を襲名したとみられる。嫡男の光弘のほか,川原林秀興をはじめ篠山篤興,松尾月山など多くの門人の育成にも努め,大月派の隆盛に大きく貢献した。 (加島勝) 出典 朝日日本歴史人物事典:(株)朝日新聞出版朝日日本歴史人物事典について 情報 |
