Ooigo - Oigo

…The mountain god believed by hunters, charcoal burners, woodcutters, lumberjacks, and other mountain workers is different from the mountain god believed by farmers who travel between the mountains and the villages. They believe that the mountain god resides in the mountains all year round, and they tend to regard trees with special shapes as especially sacred as the mountain god's trees. Woodcutters and woodcutters called the mountain god Ooigo, and the characters Daiko and Taishi were added to it, leading to the reading Daishi and Taishi. Stories about the mountain god's encounters with Kobo Daishi, Ganzan Daishi, and Chisha Daishi were passed down, and they came to confuse the god with Prince Shotoku, or Prince Shotoku. Charcoal burners say that Kobo Daishi taught them the key to charcoal burning, namely how to distinguish the color of the smoke coming out of the smoke hole, and there were many places in eastern Japan where the smoke hole was called Daishiana. …

…猟師，炭焼き，木樵（きこり），木挽（こびき）など山稼ぎ職の信ずる山の神は，農民のいう山と里を去来する山の神と信仰を異にし，山の神は一年中山に鎮まると考え，特殊な形をした木を山の神の木としてとくに神聖視する風がある。　木樵や木挽は山の神をオオイゴと呼んだところから，それに大子，太子の字をあててダイシ，タイシと読まれ，弘法大師や元三（がんざん）大師，智者大師などに付会した話に語り伝えられ，太子様すなわち聖徳太子とも混同して信仰するようになった。　炭焼き仲間では煙出しの穴から出る煙の色をいかによく判別するかという炭焼き技術の要諦を弘法大師から教えられたのだといい，煙出しの穴をダイシアナと呼ぶところが東日本にはたくさんあった。…
