〘noun〙① In judo, grabbing an opponent's collar and using the collar or hands to choke his neck. ※Sakehon・Manigai Hayasui (1769) - The phrase in Hayasui: "The teahouse owner, who was completely useless, caught him and (abbreviated ) eri-shime (shime) ." ② Something worn around the neck to protect against the cold. A neck wrap. A collar wrap. ※Kaika no Hanashi (1879) - Two stories from Tsuji Kosou: "A white eri-jime was wrapped around a blanket - like undergarment ." ③ A type of basting needle that is somewhat long and thick.
