Jehu

Japanese: エヒウ（英語表記）Jehu

King of the Kingdom of Israel (reigned 842-815 BC). He overthrew the Omri dynasty, which had broken the traditions of Israel's religious government, and established the Fourth Dynasty of Israel by killing all of the royal family and their followers. He was a skilled statesman, but according to an inscription by Shalmaneser III, he lost most of the eastern bank of the Jordan despite paying tribute to Assyria.

イスラエル王国の王 (在位前 842～815) 。イスラエルの祭政の伝統を破ったオムリ朝を倒し，王族とその信奉者をすべて殺害してイスラエルの第4王朝を開いた。政治的手腕にすぐれていたが，シャルマネゼル3世の碑文によれば，アッシリアに貢を献じたにもかかわらず，ヨルダン側東岸の大半を失った。
