Edogawa Floodway - Edogawa Floodway

Japanese: 江戸川放水路 - えどがわほうすいろ

A waterway that flows along the eastern border of Hon-Gyotoku in the southern part of Ichikawa City in the western part of Chiba Prefecture and empties into Tokyo Bay. It is 2.8 km long and 300 m wide. It was built to control flooding in the middle and upper reaches of the Edogawa River, which is about 60 km long, and to eliminate the cause of flood damage. The Edogawa River and the Edogawa Floodway intersect with the triangular areas of Gyotoku, Kakemama, and Urayasu. It was designated a Class A river by the Ministry of Construction in 1965, and the floodway is now the main stream, meaning that the former Edogawa River is now the Old Edogawa River.

千葉県西部，市川市南部にある本行徳の東境を流れ，東京湾に注ぐ水路。長さ 2.8km，幅 300m。江戸川延長約 60kmのうち，中流，上流地区の洪水の停滞を調節し，水害の原因を除くために造られた。江戸川と江戸川放水路との間には行徳，欠真間，浦安の三角地帯が入りこんでいる。 1965年建設省の指定による一級河川で，放水路を本流とし，従来の江戸川は旧江戸川となっている。
