Film copy - Eishabon

Japanese:
Film copy - Eishabon

A book made by placing thin paper such as ganpishi on top of the original (base text) and faithfully tracing (transcribing) the shape of the characters of the original. It is also called an eishōbon. It is a type of manuscript, but the covering method is not only superior to transcriptions, mimics, and copies, with fewer errors, but also highly valuable as it conveys the essence of the original well, and is also respected as a substitute for the originals that have already been lost. Originals for eishōbon include published books, copies, and ancient documents.
