Asian rice - Ajiaine

...It is believed that the cultivated species evolved from Oryza perennis , a wild rice species belonging to the Oryzae section. However, in some parts of West Africa, African rice O. glaberrima , which is believed to have originated from another wild rice species, Oryza breviligulata , is cultivated, and to distinguish it from this, the normal cultivated rice O. sativa is called Asian rice. There are several theories about the origin of Asian rice cultivation, including the east coast of India, northern India, or the region from Assam to Yunnan in China, but the theory that it originated from the region from Assam to Yunnan in China is currently gaining popularity.
