...It is one of the important rock-forming minerals, belongs to the cubic crystal system, and is a general term for a group of minerals belonging to the garnet group with the chemical composition R ^II ₃ R ^III ₂ Si ₃ O ₁₂ (where R ^II is Ca, Mg, Fe ²⁺ , Mn, and R ^III is Al, Fe ³⁺ , Cr, etc.).
