Arechinogiku - Arechinogiku

A naturalized one- or two-year-old plant of the Asteraceae family (APG classification: Asteraceae). It grows on roadsides. The stem is upright, but the main trunk stops growing at 30-50 cm, and the branches extend beyond the main trunk. It has grayish-white hairs all over, making it look dusty. With a gray-green plant body and the appearance of the main trunk stopping to grow, it looks like a weed suitable for roadsides and wastelands, but it is native to South America. It was introduced to Japan in the mid-Meiji period and once grew very thickly, but is rarely seen these days.

キク科（APG分類：キク科）の一、二年生の帰化植物。道端に生える。茎は直立するが、30～50センチメートルで主幹が止まり、枝が主幹を越えて伸長する。全体に灰白色の毛が多く、ほこりまみれになったようにみえる。灰緑色の植物体で、主幹の成長が止まるようすから、道端や荒地にふさわしい雑草のようにみえるが、原産地は南アメリカである。日本へは明治中期に渡来し、一時は非常に繁茂したが、最近ではまれにみかける程度である。
