Meanwhile, in West Francia, Eudes (reigned 887-897) of the House of Robert (later the House of Capet), who had distinguished himself in the Norman siege of Paris (885-886), and Raoul of Burgundy (reigned 923-936) were elected kings, and the principle of the monopoly of the throne by this dynasty was soon broken, and the Carolingian dynasty came to an end with the accession of Hugh Capet (987).
