...The fact that Hidetada suddenly left Utsunomiya and returned to Edo Castle by a forced march through the night, combined with the rumors of Hidetada's removal of Masazumi from his position in October of that year and of a rebellion by Matsudaira Tadanao (who retired and was exiled the following year), the lord of Echizen Kitanosho Castle (Fukui), led to the creation of this rumor. [Utsunomiya Noisy Animals]
A general term for books, kodan, kabuki, and kyogen plays based on the Utsunomiya Tsuri Tenjo Incident, which are a mix of fiction and embellishments based on a popular legend created to apply to the third shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu. Honda Kozuke no Suke Masazumi, the lord of Utsunomiya Castle, who was the guardian of Suruga Dainagon Tadanaga, who lost in a battle with Iemitsu for the succession of Hidetada, held a grudge against Iemitsu.
