...battle between the Indian Nawab of Bengal and the British East India Company in 1757. The free customs clearance rights granted to the East India Company for its goods and the abuse of these rights by company officials dealt a blow to the Nawab's financial income, and conflict between the Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah and the Company intensified. The issue of fortifying the Company's trading post led to a military clash between the two.
