A former town in Nishi-Kunisaki District, in the northwest of the Kunisaki Peninsula, Oita Prefecture. In addition to rice cultivation in the river valley, tobacco and mandarin oranges are cultivated at the foot of the mountain, shiitake mushrooms are produced, and livestock such as pig farming is also carried out.
