Silver acetylide

Japanese: アセチレン化銀 - あせちれんかぎん（英語表記）silver acetylide

Chemical formula: Ag ₂ C ₂ . Also known as silver acetylide or silver carbide. It is the silver salt of acetylene HC≡CH and consists of Ag ⁺ and [C≡C] ^2- . It precipitates when acetylene gas is passed through an aqueous solution of silver nitrate in ammonia. Various compositions can be obtained depending on the reaction conditions. It is a white powder that is only slightly soluble in water. It reacts with acids and alkalis to produce acetylene. It is sensitive to light, but is particularly unstable in a dry state and explodes violently when heated or rubbed. [Mizumachi Kunihiko]
