In many languages, when there is a regular opposition between a form in which the actor acts as the main character and a form in which the receiver of the action acts as the main character, the former is called the active voice and the latter the passive voice (statement). In Japanese, the opposition between "do" and "are" is regularly seen, as in "Mr. Wang raised him" and "He was raised by Mr. Wang," so it can be said that "(ra)reru" is a grammatical form that expresses the passive voice. However, this form also creates the so-called "nuisance passive voice," as in "fallen in the rain" and "being put to sleep by my wife."
