...A poet and composer from the German-speaking world in the late Middle Ages. Born to a South Tyrolean noble family. He wrote about 125 works in manuscripts created during his lifetime. In addition to religious poems (especially Marian hymns) and love poems, he also wrote satirical autobiographical poems. He left home at the age of 10, traveled throughout Europe, Turkey, and Persia, and is said to have spoken 10 languages. His lyrics and compositions are linked to the Minnesang tradition, but his style is not at all courtly.
