Image sensor. A general term for devices (semiconductors) such as CCD and CMOS that convert the light they receive into an electrical signal. They are also called "imagers" or imaging elements. They detect light images by arranging many small elements (phototransistors) also called photosensors, and convert them into electrical signals. In a film camera, they also play the role of the film.
