Gene pool is a conceptual term that refers to the total number of genes possessed by all individuals in a homogeneous population (Mendelian population) in which sexual reproduction is free and therefore the exchange of genes is completely free. In other words, in a Mendelian population, each individual is thought to share a common gene pool to create their own genotype.
