An ancient Etruscan city. It was located 50km north of Rome, facing the Tyrrhenian coast. Today it is called Cerveteri. It was one of the 12 city alliances and prospered in the 7th to 5th centuries BC through trade with the eastern Mediterranean world. The gold and silver ornaments excavated from tombs here show an elaborate style dating back to the 7th century BC, and are representative of Etruscan art from the Orientalization period.
