The story of the one-horned hermit

…An ancient Indian epic. Along with the Ramayana, it is considered India's national epic. It consists of 18 volumes, and including the supplement Harivaṃśa, it contains 100,000 hymns (a hymn is a poem of 16 syllables, two lines), making it the longest epic poem in history. According to legend, it was passed down by a sage named Vyasa to his five disciples, and one of them, Vaishampāyana, recited it for the first time during a snake-slaying ritual held by King Janamejaya.
