...A disease in which abnormalities in the production and excretion of uric acid lead to hyperuricemia, causing repeated bouts of pain in peripheral joints. There are primary or idiopathic gout and secondary or secondary gout, but gout generally refers to primary or idiopathic gout. The underlying cause is unknown, with congenital or genetic predispositions. Secondary or secondary gout is caused by hematopoietic diseases, drug poisoning, and enzyme deficiencies. For this reason, gout is considered a syndrome. The underlying cause in both cases is hyperuricemia due to excessive intake of purines such as animal protein, and excessive production of uric acid and reduced excretion by the kidneys. ...
